The Pure Water Specialists…
OUR STORY
In May 2016, Michael and Melissa decided to open ‘The Pure Water Specialists’ at 91 Old Cleveland Road Capalaba.
Michael refers to this business as a ‘start from scratch’ business. Farmers Market participation at Carseldine, Mt Gravatt, Milton and Cleveland Markets, enabled the business to grow with customers requiring water deliveries, filter installations, and servicing of filters, sales as well as hiring water coolers.
Our Back Story
The founder of The Pure Water Specialists -Michael Jones was originally in Real Estate from 1976.
In the early months of 1992, he was on the Gold Coast – the year began in a positive way, however, by March, the Market ‘nose-dived’ and Michael began to look for his next challenge.
A trip to Brisbane changed the path of his life – he had the pleasure of meeting a well known Naturopath, namely Mr Brian Morley.
He also observed a water test being conducted which identified all the heavy metals and chemical in the water, and in Michael’s words…
‘I thought to myself, this is not how it should be!’
(Michael grew up on tank water in the Hunter Valley NSW and was unaware of the impurities in town water).
He was told that boiling tap water was concentrating the dissolved solids/chemicals. Steam is pure water, less water, more concentration of dissolved solids.
Michael didn’t waste any time in moving forward, first and foremost he wanted his young family to drink ‘the best’ water.
He purchased a filtration unit and ‘bottled his first batch of pure water’
He had a burning desire to educate people about the importance of purifying water.
After speaking with locals in his area he started to supply his pure water to a handful of customers.
Throughout the1990s, he installed many filters, and serviced them for his customers.
It wasn’t all rainbows and daffodils so-to-speak; it was a real struggle during this period.
In Michael’s words…
‘It wasn’t fashionable to be promoting water- I had mates saying- you’re wasting your time Jones, get a real job – however, I could see a bigger picture…’
Gold Coast to Hunter Valley
In 1997, Michael left the Gold Coast and returned to the Hunter Valley where his main income stream was from Real Estate Sales with Bottled Water/Water Filtration on the sideline – deep down he knew ‘Water was his true passion’.
During this time, Michael commenced monthly health talks in association with Brian Morley on conference calls, which assisted people’s health and wellbeing.
In approximately 2006, he decided to step out of Real Estate and ‘jump in, boots and all’ to build his Water Business.
He registered as a Stallholder at Newcastle Farmers Market (refer image) and recalls being amongst five (5) other water/water filtration stallholders that day and he thought to himself:
‘What have I done..? Left Real Estate, no income, taken a blind leap of faith. . . yet, something is telling me it’s the right thing. . .’
Over the next few months his patience and intuition allowed him to observe the potential to grow the business.
When the winter months arrived, the other five Water Stallholders dropped away and Michael was the stand alone water business- attending every week, remaining loyal to the Newcastle Market Community, and educating patrons on the importance of purified water.
He decided at the beginning of Spring, to approach the Management Team at Newcastle Market:
In Michael’s words…
‘I’ve stuck by you during the winter months, how about sticking with me through Summer- to which they agreed’.
He continued to attend Newcastle, The Entrance, Speers Point and Singleton Markets in NSW, every week ‘rain, hail or shine’.
The Farmers Market Community is such an integral part of society and Michael was a well respected member, possessing a burning desire to help people and educate them on all aspects of water.
Michael’s customer base grew organically and it was time move his home-based business into a warehouse – The Pure Water Specialists at 8/30 Shipley Drive Rutherford NSW.
He offered free delivery to customers’ homes/businesses and would look forward to having a chat with them – ‘Good old fashioned service’
Turning Point
That was the true turning point for Michael; this was a perfect platform to build his business.
In 2016 Michael decided it was time to move north to Queensland with his partner Melissa, to be closer to his children and to embrace life on the coast.
So, with a customer base (purchasing purified water, filters, filter parts) and so on of approximately six hundred (600), Michael sold the business at Rutherford to a dedicated family – this business continues to evolve and grow.
It was also at this time, Michael had established ‘The Pure Water Specialists’ in Burleigh Heads Qld with Melissa, and after obtaining a customer base through being a Stallholder at Burleigh Heads Farmers Market decided to sell eighteen (18) months later – and again this business continues to grow and evolve.
Universal Health Journey
Michael and Melissa are passionate about what they do and the service they provide to people looking for answers to both improve and/or maintain their health.
It is worth the initial pain and sacrifice of establishing a business, especially in the health arena, as this service is needed more than ever!
Michael and Melissa are dedicated to providing an individualised service, driven by passion and gratitude, and they firmly believe the business will continue to grow.
